Week of January 22

Two weeks ago, an important Letter from the Directors was sent out. If you have not done so already, take the time to read the letter below this week’s schedule. Additionally, review the scheduled rehearsals, performances, and other events for the remainder of the school year.

The Pre-Festival Concerts are Tuesday 2/6 and Wednesday 2/7. Go to Ludus at the link below to purchase tickets. General Admission for ages 13-64 is $10. Ages 12 and under & 65 and older are free.

District Solo & Ensemble is fast approaching. The S&E schedule and information are linked below. If for any reason you are unable to attend your allotted performance time, you must contact Adam as soon as possible.

Letter from the Directors

Here are some reminders for the coming weeks:

  1. This past fall, we had a terrific Marching Band Season and can certainly be proud of that. We are in the process of paying off the expenses incurred when providing a great Band Camp for such a dynamic group. While the Band expenses are partially covered by the NHS Band budget, the portion not covered comes from the Band fees. Those of you who still have not submitted these payments, please submit them as soon as possible through the NHS Band RevTrak. If you are unsure if you have paid, we have a list of those who have paid.
  1. After-school rehearsals for the Symphonic Bands started the week of January 8. These once-a-week rehearsals are from 3:30 – 4:30 PM, with SB 9/10 on Tuesdays and SB 11/12 on Thursdays. Jazz Ensemble will continue to meet Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30 – 3:30 PM. These after-school rehearsals will not be held during final exam week (January 22–26).
  1. Mr. Rumbell will be hearing make-ups for those students who missed any of our most recent performances including: The Holiday Lighted Parade, Band-O-Rama, and the two Holiday Concerts with the choir. These make-up sessions will be held during seminar. Parents must insure that the student’s absence is excused per our attendance policy in the Band Packet (Handbook Section E, pg. 5–6).
  1. If you are still in need of a Tuxedo Shirt/Bowtie, Polo, or Marching Shoes, please email Adam as soon as possible at kolliparaad@northvilleschools.org.

We are very excited about our upcoming events, and we are looking forward to more great music-making.

Week of December 18

The COMBINED Symphonic Band 9/10 will play on BOTH nights of the “Holiday Harmonies” Concerts on Tuesday, December 19 & Wednesday, December 20 due to unbalanced instrumentation in Symphonic Band 10.

9th & 10th Grade PERCUSSION for “Holiday Harmonies”: Due to the size of the SB 9/10 Percussion Section, 9th Grade Percussionists will perform with SB 9/10 ONLY ON TUESDAY and 10th Grade Percussionists will perform with SB 9/10 ONLY ON WEDNESDAY. See the Percussion tab for your part assignments. All other band members perform both days.


  • Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal @ 2:30  3:30 PM.
  • “Holiday Harmonies” Concert 1 is on Tuesday, December 19.

  • Attire: Concert Uniform summer uniform (band polo) for all SB 9/10, and tuxedo for SB 11/12.

Week of December 4

We need parents to sign up on SignUp Genius to help with marching uniform return and tuxedo fitting/distribution! Marching uniform return is on Tuesday, December 5 at 7:30 8:30 AM and 2:30 4:30 PM. Tuxedo fitting/distribution is during classes on Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8.

    • If you cannot return your uniform yourself, send it with a friend to return it for you; if it is not returned this day, you are responsible for paying to have the jacket and pants professionally dry cleaned, and it must be returned in the dry cleaner’s plastic bag with receipt in order to be returned – NO EXCEPTIONS!
    • Thank you for your cooperation with this deadline; the company we use for dry cleaning picks up all uniforms in bulk at one time for cleaning.

Week of November 27

Week of November 20

Tri-M members who participated at the Ward Church Performance on Sunday, November 19 will report 3.5 PERFORMANCE hours (8:30 AM – 12:00 PM) as Tri-M credit.

We need parents to sign up here to help with marching uniform return in the band room on Tuesday, December 5 at 7:30 8:30 AM and 2:30 4:30 PM.

Please be advised that the COMBINED Symphonic Band 9/10 will now play on BOTH nights of the Band & Choir Holiday Concerts on Tuesday, December 19 & Wednesday, December 20 due to unbalanced instrumentation in Symphonic Band 10.

  • ALL PIECES of the marching uniform MUST be returned THIS DAY ONLY at 7:30 – 8:30 AM or 2:30 – 4:30 PM in the band room.
  • If you cannot return your uniform yourself, send it with a friend; if it is not returned this day, you are responsible for paying to have it professionally dry cleaned, and it must be return in the dry cleaner’s plastic bag with receipt.

Week of November 13


  • Jazz Ensemble after-school rehearsal. Meet in the band room at 2:30 – 3:30 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays until Band-O-Rama.
  • Percussion Ensemble Octet seminar rehearsal. Meet in the band room during 1A Seminar at 7:30 – 8:20 AM. These rehearsals will be announced weekly (based on student vote) and are in preparation for their performance of Sonatine.
  • Jazz Ensemble after-school rehearsal. Meet in the band room at 2:30 – 3:30 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays until Band-O-Rama.
  • NHS Music Boosters Meeting. The Boosters will meet in the back room at the Northville Sports Den at 7:00 PM.
  • Sign-up via the WARD CHURCH GOOGLE FORM. Rehearsal in 1A Seminar on Thursday, November 16 @ 7:30 8:20 AM in the band room. We will perform at the end of each morning service on Sunday, November 19 to complement the sermon theme. The performance counts as Tri-M credit.

    • The band will march in the parade beginning at 6:30 PM performing “A Christmas Special,” and the band trailer will follow the band in the parade with festive decorations!

The Pep Band will not be performing at the away football playoff game vs. Belleville on Saturday 11/11 @ 1:00 PM due to scheduling conflicts. Feel free to attend in the student section to cheer on our team!
