Week of April 8

CONGRATULATIONS to our STATE CHAMPION Jazz Ensemble for their Straight First Division Ratings at State Jazz Festival on Thursday, April 4, 2024! Rehearsals will continue Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:30 – 3:30 PM for all Jazz Ensemble members in preparation for the Gazebo Concert in Downtown Northville on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM.

MSBOA State Band Festival is on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Manchester High School. PARENTS: We are in need of bus/festival chaperones! Please sign up via SignUp Genius. Symphonic Band 9/10 performs at 5:55 PM. Symphonic Band 11/12 performs at 8:25 PM. Report times at NHS are forthcoming for State Band Festival. Students will be bussed to and from festival. Percussion instruments and larger wind instruments will be transported via the band trailer (goes to festival with SB 9/10 and returns with SB 11/12). All other instruments will be taken on the buses. State Band Festival is required and graded for all band students.

Week of March 18

Thank you to all who participated in MSBOA State Solo & Ensemble at Churchill on Saturday, March 16!

For those who have been selected to be in the pit orchestra for the NHS Drama Club’s Spring Musical Production of Mean Girls, there will be after-school pit orchestra rehearsals in the band room at 3:30 – 4:30 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays beginning this week.

Week of March 11

State Solo & Ensemble is this Saturday, March 16 at Churchill High School. Read important information and find the schedule at the link below.

Congratulations to both Symphonic Bands for straight First Division Ratings at District XII Band Festival! State Band Festival will be held between May 2-4. Date, time, location, and other details will be announced when MSBOA releases them, which will likely be early-April.

  • Percussion Ensemble Rehearsal @ 7:30 – 8:20 AM.
  • Refer to the MSBOA Music Opportunities tab and the Band Information Packet for State S&E information and the performance schedule. You are responsible for transporting yourself and all equipment/materials for your performance. Take everything home on Friday – NHS will not be open on Saturday except for Percussion Ensemble loading/unloading.
  • Percussion Ensemble meets at NHS at 1:30 PM in tuxedo to load the trailer before traveling to Churchill HS. Arrival back at NHS after the performance is estimated to be 5:00 PM – refer to the Google Calendar event for the full timeline.

Week of March 4

District XII Band Festival is this Saturday, March 9 at Wayne Memorial High School. Important information is included below in this week’s schedule and in the Band Information Packet.

This Week’s Schedule

All students need to bring marching instruments and music and symphonic instruments and music to band class everyday. In addition to festival music, marching music will be rehearsed during every band class in preparation for the marching band performance at the Pep Rally this Friday, March 8 during 4th hour.

  • Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal @ 2:30 – 3:30 PM.

  • Symphonic Band 9/10 Rehearsal @ 3:30 – 4:30 PM.

    • Along with marching shoes, all students must wear crew-length (long) black socks ONLY, with NO designs or logos. NO EXCEPTIONS. We are rated based on appearance in addition to musicianship.

  • Symphonic Band 9/10
    • Report to NHS @ 7:00 AM in Concert Uniform (Summer Uniform – tucked-in band polo, black dress pants, black belt if needed, marching shoes, black socks).
    • Perform @ 9:50 – 10:50 AM.
    • Return to NHS by 12:30 PM.
  • Symphonic Band 11/12
    • Report to NHS @ 9:45 AM in Concert Uniform (Tuxedo  jacket, pants, tux shirt, bowtie, marching shoes, black socks).
    • Perform @ 12:50 – 1:50 PM.
    • Return to NHS by 3:00 PM.
  • District XII Band Festival is a required and graded performance for all band students. Students are bussed to and from festival.
  • The trailer will be used for percussion instruments and some larger wind instruments. All other instruments will be taken on the buses.
  • Wayne Memorial will provide timpani, bass drum, and mallet instruments. SB 9/10 percussionists will bring all other percussion needed for both SB 9/10 and SB 11/12. See Adam at 7:00 AM for the list of percussion items.
  • Students who are leaving after the festival performance with parents instead of the bus must notify Mr. Rumbell or Adam before leaving.

Week of February 26

On Sunday, February 25 at 6:50 PM, Drumline performs at First United Methodist Church of Northville. Those who are performing must arrive no later than 6:30 PM. The performance will be approximately 30 minutes. The church address is 777 Eight Mile Road, Northville, MI 48167 (at 8 Mile & Taft intersection).


This Week’s Schedule

All students need to bring marching instruments and music and symphonic instruments and music to band class everyday beginning Monday, February 26. Marching and festival music will be rehearsed during every band class. This is in preparation for the marching band performance at the Pep Rally on Friday, March 8 during 4th hour.

  • The next MOD Pizza Fundraiser is on Thursday, February 22. On this day, 25% of proceeds will go to the Boosters to fund our music programs. Use online code MODGIVES25, or mention the fundraiser or show the flyer in-person. We raised over $500 during the last fundraiser!

Week of February 12

State Solo & Ensemble Festival is at Churchill HS on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Those who earned a 1st Division Rating at District S&E are eligible to register. Registration via the Google Form and paper form with payment to the white mailbox in the band room is due no later than 5:00 PM THIS TUESDAY, February 13, 2024. The performance schedule will be announced after MSBOA compiles registered students.

  • The next MOD Pizza Fundraiser is on Thursday, February 22. On this day, 25% of proceeds will go to the Boosters to fund our music programs. Use online code MODGIVES25, or mention the fundraiser or show the flyer in-person.
  • Designate the Boosters to receive donations when you shop at Kroger and Busch’s.

Week of February 5

The Pre-Festival Concerts are this Tuesday 2/6 and Wednesday 2/7. Visit the links below to purchase tickets and view the program. General Admission for ages 13-64 is $10. Ages 12 and under, 65 and older, and NPS faculty/staff enter free. Middle school parents/families enter free on Tuesday 2/6.

District XII Solo & Ensemble Festival is this Saturday 2/10. The performance schedule and information are linked below. If for any reason you are unable to attend your allotted performance time, you must contact Adam as soon as possible. Be sure to refer to the internal map of Livonia Franklin HS to locate your warm-up and performance rooms.

MSBOA published the State Jazz Ensemble Festival schedule on Friday 2/9. We perform at Royal Oak HS on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Report time at NHS is forthcoming. The performance is at 8:30 PM. Students are bussed to and from festival. Instruments are transported on the trailer and bus. Jazz Festival is a required and graded performance for Jazz Ensemble members.

    • Pre-Festival Concert 1 features NHS Symphonic Band 11/12, Mead Mill MS Band 8, and Hillside MS Band 8.
    • Attire: Concert Uniform (Tuxedo)

    • Report Time: 6:00 PM
    • Concert: 7:00 PM

  • PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE meets in the NHS band room at 1:30 PM in tuxedo to rehearse and load the trailer before traveling to Livonia Franklin HS. Arrival back at NHS after the performance is estimated to be 6:00 PM – refer to the Google Calendar event for the full timeline.

Week of January 29

A few weeks ago, an important Letter from the Directors was sent out. If you have not done so already, take the time to read the letter below this week’s schedule. Additionally, review the scheduled rehearsals, performances, and other events for the remainder of the school year.

Letter from the Directors

Here are some reminders for the coming weeks:

  1. This past fall, we had a terrific Marching Band Season and can certainly be proud of that. We are in the process of paying off the expenses incurred when providing a great Band Camp for such a dynamic group. While the Band expenses are partially covered by the NHS Band budget, the portion not covered comes from the Band fees. Those of you who still have not submitted these payments, please submit them as soon as possible through the NHS Band RevTrak. If you are unsure if you have paid, we have a list of those who have paid.
  1. After-school rehearsals for the Symphonic Bands started the week of January 8. These once-a-week rehearsals are from 3:30 – 4:30 PM, with SB 9/10 on Tuesdays and SB 11/12 on Thursdays. Jazz Ensemble will continue to meet Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30 – 3:30 PM. These after-school rehearsals will not be held during final exam week (January 22–26).
  1. Mr. Rumbell will be hearing make-ups for those students who missed any of our most recent performances including: The Holiday Lighted Parade, Band-O-Rama, and the two Holiday Concerts with the choir. These make-up sessions will be held during seminar. Parents must insure that the student’s absence is excused per our attendance policy in the Band Packet (Handbook Section E, pg. 5–6).
  1. If you are still in need of a Tuxedo Shirt/Bowtie, Polo, or Marching Shoes, please email Adam as soon as possible at kolliparaad@northvilleschools.org.

We are very excited about our upcoming events, and we are looking forward to more great music-making.
