Week of October 16

MSBOA SOLO & ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL – This is an optional event in addition to the band program’s curriculum. Students sign up to perform a solo or ensemble music selection. The deadline to register for MSBOA District XII Solo & Ensemble Festival is TODAY, October 20 @ 4:00 PM. Click here for information and click here to register. You must print the form and submit it with payment to the white mailbox in the band room (on top of the file cabinet next to the music library) or give it to Adam at Pep Band at 4:00 PM today. Email Adam at kolliparaad@northvilleschools.org only with questions that are not answered in the 2 links above.

NOTE: Percussion Ensemble Octet students that were selected by Adam will not submit a registration form for that specific performance. Adam has already registered the group, but the members will need to pay $10 each to cover the registration fee. If you are performing additional solos/ensembles, you must submit registration forms for those events.


  • Jazz Ensemble will rehearse from 2:30 – 3:30 PM in the band room.
  • NHS Music Boosters will hold their monthly meeting for October at the Northville District Library in the Carlo Meeting Room at 7:00 PM.
  • Dismissed from Class: 1:50 PM
  • Depart NHS: no later than 2:10 PM
  • Perform at Meads Mill: 2:40 PM
  • Jazz Ensemble will rehearse from 2:30 – 3:30 PM in the band room.

Percussion Ensemble Octet will met in the band room during 1A Seminar from 7:30 – 8:20 AM to receive music for Solo & Ensemble and rehearse.

  • Report to NHS Band Room: 4:30 PM (4:00 PM if you need music)
  • Depart NHS: 5:00/5:15 PM (~1 hour drive with rush hour traffic and construction)
  • Enter Belleville HS Stadium: 6:15 PM

Jazz Ensemble rehearsals are in the band room at 2:30 – 3:30 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays until the Band-O-Rama Concert on Friday, December 1, 2023.


  • PARENTS must email both Mr. Rumbell and Adam regarding any student absences to be in compliance with the “Attendance Policies & Procedures” section of the Band Packet. This includes arriving late or leaving early from rehearsals (during and after school) or performances.
  • The band’s policies and procedures must be followed in addition to reporting absences during the school day (see Northville High School’s Attendance Guidelines).
  • A limited supply of extra shirts (S/M/L) have been ordered and can be purchased on a “first-come, first-serve” basis. See Adam to purchase with cash, check, Venmo, PayPal, or Zelle – T-shirts ($24), crewnecks ($39), hoodies ($49).
  • Available inventory:
    • SMALL – 2 t-shirts, 3 crewnecks, 3 hoodies
    • MEDIUM – 3 t-shirts, 2 hoodies
  • This parade is at 6:30 PM on Friday, November 17 and precedes the tree lighting ceremony at 8:00 PM in the Northville Town Square.
  • The band will march in the parade performing “A Christmas Special.”
  • The Band-O-Rama Concert is at 7:00 PM on Friday, December 1 and features Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Bands, Drumline, and a Marching Band finale.
  • Tickets: $10 at NorthvilleHSBands.Ludus.com or cash at the door (free admission: 12 & under and 65 & older).

Week of October 9

  • The sectional will be held in the band room at 2:30 – 4:30 PM.
  • Front Ensemble members will work on music and coordination for home games and Pep Band.

  • Rehearsal is in the band room at 7:30 – 8:20 AM. Due to preparation for testing on Thursday, October 12, Freshmen/Sophomores/Juniors will come and go as needed depending on their assigned times to go to their testing room for a “Digital Readiness Check” (proctors will take attendance, pass out testing tickets and devices, and assist students with logging into Bluebook).
    • Seniors have no schedule disruptions. Report to the band room for Pep Band rehearsal at 7:30 – 8:20 AM.
    • Juniors will report to the band room for Pep Band rehearsal at 7:30 AM. Report to testing rooms at 8:00 – 8:30 AM.
    • Freshmen and Sophomores will report to their testing room at 7:20 – 7:50 AM. Report to the band room afterwards for Pep Band rehearsal.
  • This week’s game is on Friday, October 13 at Novi High School (24062 Taft Rd, Novi, MI 48375).
  • Next week’s game (just announced) is on Friday, October 20 at Belleville High School (501 W Columbia Ave, Belleville, MI 48111).

SENIOR NIGHT CEREMONY: All seniors will be recognized in the stadium prior to the pre-game performance. Parents, please arrive at the Cooke side of the track (northwest corner near the concessions) at 6:15 PM. Line up alphabetically by last name and await further instructions from coordinators. Seniors will be announced shortly thereafter.

  • NHS MUSIC BOOSTERS ANNOUNCEMENT: We are still in need of parent volunteers for tonight’s game and other music events listed on the SignUp Genius page. Volunteer to sell raffle tickets at this game!

Week of September 25

  • Each year, Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) provides “All-State” music opportunities to middle and high school students.

  • Turn in completed forms with payment in a labeled envelope to the white mailbox in the band room (on the file cabinet next to the music library).
  • Meet in the band room for 2:30 – 5:00 PM rehearsal.
  • Bring all rehearsal necessities and dress for the weather.
