Week of September 7

The 2025/26 NHS Jazz Ensemble performs at the Detroit Jazz Festival on Sunday, September 6, 2026 @ 1:00 – 1:30 PM in the Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center. Find parking information and event details here.

The Detroit Jazz Festival is the largest free jazz festival in the world. The NHS Jazz Ensemble has performed at the Detroit Jazz Festival almost every year of the festival since it began in 1980 – no other group, amateur or professional, has performed this many times at the festival other than NHS. 

Any and all band students, families, and friends are encouraged to support the Jazz Ensemble by attending this special performance.



This Week’s Schedule

  • NO SCHOOL – Labor Day
  • Bring all Marching Band rehearsal necessities and dress for the weather. Rehearsals are every Wednesday until the final Home Football Game, unless otherwise stated.
  • MARCHING BAND PERFORMANCE @ “Youth Night” Home Football Game vs. Brighton Bulldogs
    • Attire: Summer Uniform – Band Polo tucked into BLACK DRESS PANTS (no jeans, sweatpants, yoga pants, etc…), Black Belt (if needed), LONG BLACK SOCKS WITHOUT LOGOS (no footies or white socks), and Marching Shoes. Front Ensemble (Pit) Percussion wears their Percussion Baseball Cap for all outdoor performances.
    • Location: Plateau (grass practice football field across bridge from Hillside) / march in parade block to Sports Den Stadium
    • Report to NHS (Leadership, Front Ensemble, Sousaphones, Color Guard): 4:00 PM
    • Drumline Reports to Stadium: 4:45 PM; setup drum stands in bleachers
    • Report to Plateau (ALL Students): 5:00 PM
    • Pre-Game Performance: 6:40 PM; water provided after performance
    • Kickoff: 7:00 PM
    • Halftime: Marching Show; pizza and beverages provided after performance (time depends on gameplay – we cannot estimate this!)
    • Post-Game Performance (time depends on gameplay – we cannot estimate this!)
    • Load Trailer & Return NHS to Unload (Leadership, Drumline, Front Ensemble, Sousaphones, Color Guard)

Week 3 – Band Camp – 2026

Please submit all Band Fees that are necessary for your student(s) as soon as possible, as they were due last Monday, August 17. The Marching Show Shirt Design Submission Deadline has been extended to this Sunday, August 23. Band Pictures are this Monday, August 24. The first Home Football Game is this Thursday, August 27.

The performance will be in the Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center at 1:00 PM. Upcoming rehearsals are August 24 & 25 @ 5:00 – 6:00 PM in the NHS Band Room. Additional rehearsal dates and specific details are forthcoming.


This Week’s Schedule

  • Make-Up Transition Day @ 8:00 AM for any students who missed their grade’s transition day last week.
  • BAND CAMP @ 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Band Yearbook Photos for All Students in Main Gymnasium @ 1:00 PM in Marching Uniform. Be in your Marching Uniform early to begin pictures promptly @ 1:00 PM. No shako or gloves for the photos. Photos are cropped at the knees, so you can wear marching shoes or athletic shoes. Today is the deadline to order BAND PICTURES (all students) and 2×3 SENIOR BANNERS (2027 Seniors only) from VSN. Senior Banners will be attached to the fence on the home side of the Sports Den Stadium for the marching season, and available for pick-up at Band-O-Rama on Friday, December 4. Week 2 – Band Camp – 2026

The 2026 Band Camp Schedule and 2026/27 Band Packet are linked below. Please review the SLIDESHOW that was presented at Band Parent Information Night (meeting recap below This Week’s Schedule). Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomores should attend their transition day at 8:00 AM and report to Band Camp by 9:00 AM. Freshmen have a full morning of activities on their transition day beginning at 7:45 AM; they are already excused from Band Camp that morning and report to Band Camp at 1:00 PM.

The performance will be in the Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center @ 1:00 PM. Upcoming rehearsals are August 18 & 21 @ 5:00 – 6:00 PM in the NHS Band Room. More rehearsal dates and specific details are forthcoming.


This Week’s Schedule

  • Senior Transition Day @ 8:00 AM.
  • ALL STUDENTS report to Band Room for Band Camp @ 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Marching Uniform Fittings during Band Camp (AM only) for anyone who has not received one yet – complete Band Uniform Agreement if you have not done so already.
  • ONLINE ORDERING DEADLINE @ 2:00 PM for Band Polo, “Halftime is Gametime” T-Shirt, and Percussion Baseball Cap.
    • BAND POLO: Required for all Band Students; Freshmen & New Students need to purchase; Returning Students should purchase a new Band Polo if their current one is worn out or does not fit.
    • “HALFTIME IS GAMETIME” T-SHIRT: Optional, but is great NHS Band representation. Most students, parents, and family members purchase these shirts.
    • PERCUSSION BASEBALL CAP: Required for students in Front Ensemble (Pit Percussion) since it is a uniform item used in place of the shako; optional for Drumline. Parents and family members can order these, too.
  • Marching Shoe & Tuxedo Shirt Fittings @ 1:00 – 3:00 PM in Ensemble/Orchestra Room, and all other Band Fees due by the end of the day:
    • In addition to paying the other fees listed on RevTrak, the marching shoes and tuxedo shirts are paid for via the NHS Band RevTrak Page. Only pay for what you need and what is required for your student (please read the description of each of the 5 items!). Once marching shoes and tuxedo shirts are shipped to us, students can pick them up in the Band Room. If you are missing the fitting day, you must email sizes to Mr. Kollipara, or else a $25 shipping fee will be assessed for late orders.
    • MARCHING SHOES: Required for all Freshmen, New Students, and any Returning Students who need replacements.
    • TUXEDO SHIRTS: Required for new members in Symphonic Band 11/12, Jazz Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble, and any Returning Students in these groups who need replacements.

  • Band Polo & Apparel Ordering Deadline on Monday, August 17 @ 2:00 PM. Buy these through the Northville Stitching Post. See announcements above for details.
  • All Band Fees due via RevTrak by end of day on Monday, August 17. See announcements above for details. Only pay the fees applicable to your student(s).
  • Nearly 300 slots need to be filled by parent volunteers for Band Events through the Band SignUp. Sign up now as we have many unfilled slots this coming week.
  • Volunteer for Music Boosters Events, such as Raffle Ticket sales, through the NHS Music Boosters SignUp Genius. All families must purchase or sell at least 5 Raffle Tickets ($20/ticket) for a successful fundraiser. The goal is for the Band, Choir, and Orchestra to sell at least 1,000 tickets total. The Boosters have a new website and email address, plus a detailed document that outlines NHS Music Boosters Activities.

  • Designate the Boosters to earn money when you shop at Kroger and Busch’s. These programs require an annual renewal.

Week of June 8

Band Room open at 8:00 AM, report to Downtown Northville at 9:00 AM, and Parade at 10:00 AM. Wear Band Polo with any shorts/pants and marching shoes/closed-toe athletic shoes.

The performance will be in the Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center, same as last year. We have not been informed of a performance time. More details are forthcoming as they are provided to the band directors.

This Week’s Schedule

  • 2026 GRADUATION BAND DETAILS
  • Attire: Dressy/“Sunday Best” – refer to Band Packet page 5
    • Dress in nice, respectable attire. Be classy and appropriate. Avoid casual clothing. Think of dressing up for the Homecoming Dance, a religious service, or a special outing. Any colors are fine.
    • Ladies: dresses, skirts, or slacks with blouses or other nice tops.
    • Men: suits, nice slacks, or shorts with a polo or buttoned shirt with nice shoes.
  • Location: USA Hockey Arena – 14900 Beck Rd, Plymouth, MI 48170
  • Band Room Open: 4:00 PM
  • Arena Doors Open: 4:30 PM
  • Report to Arena: 5:00 PM
  • Ceremony: 6:00 – 8:00 PM
  • Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will perform Pomp & Circumstance for the Class of 2026 Commencement.
  • Graduation Band is a required and graded performance for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade band students.

This Week’s Schedule

  • MEMORIAL DAY DETAILS
  • Attire: Summer Uniform – Band Polo tucked into black dress pants with black belt (if needed), long black socks, marching shoes.
  • Band Room Open: 8:00 AM
  • Report: 9:00 AM
  • Report Location: Tipping Point Theatre Parking Lot (Cady & Griswold Intersection) in Downtown Northville
  • Parade: 10:00 AM
  • Ceremony: 11:00 AM in Rural Hill Cemetery
  • Ice Cream: Casterline Funeral Home Parking Lot after Ceremony
  • The band marches the parade, which briefly stops at Oakwood Cemetery, then proceeds to Rural Hill Cemetery for the Memorial Day Ceremony, briefly stopping at the bridge before entering. The band performs A Salute to Freedom, You’re a Grand Old Flag, and God Bless America during the parade, and God Bless America and the Star Spangled Banner during the ceremony. Water is distributed to the band at Rural Hill. The band is dismissed after the ceremony, and Guernsey provides free ice cream to all in the Casterline Funeral Home parking lot. Return instruments to NHS on Tuesday.
  • The Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony is a required and graded performance for all band students, including seniors.
  • Music Leadership Workshop in Orchestra/Ensemble Room 132 @ 6:00 – 7:00 AM with Dr. Ray-Hepp. These optional workshops held on Thursday mornings are open to all NHS music students.
  • Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal @ 2:30 – 3:30 PM.
  • Band Leadership Clinic @ 3:30 – 4:30 PM.

This Week’s Schedule

  • Percussion Ensemble Rehearsal @ 7:20 – 8:20 AM (all 3 pieces).
  • Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal @ 2:30 – 3:30 PM.
  • Drumline Performance at Senior Clap-Out. Drumline members in grades 9, 10, and 11 report to the Band Room @ 1:15 PM.
  • Percussion Ensemble Rehearsal @ 2:30 – 3:30 PM (all 3 pieces). This is the final rehearsal and required for all members.
  • AN “ALL-AMERICAN” SPRING CONCERT:
    • Attire: Summer Uniform – Band Polo tucked into black dress pants with black belt (if needed), long black socks, marching shoes.
    • Location: NHS Auditorium
    • Report: 5:00 PM 
    • Jazz Ensemble Prelude: 6:15 PM
    • Concert (begins with Percussion Ensemble): 7:00 PM
    • Tickets: $10 – NorthvilleHSBands.Ludus.com; cash/check to NHS Band at the door
    • This year-end concert features all bands: Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble (WORLD PREMIERE of NORTH STAR), Symphonic Band 9/10, Symphonic Band 11/12, and a Combined Band Grand Finale of patriotic selections.
    • The “All-American” Spring Concert is required and graded performance for all band students, including seniors.
  • BAND AWARDS CEREMONY & BANQUET @ 6:30 – 9:30 PM.
    • Jazz Ensemble reports @ 5:45 PM to set up chairs/stands/rhythm section in cafeteria.

  • Meads Mill Band Concert @ 7:00 PM in the NHS Auditorium. The Meads Mill Bands will be using NHS Band equipment and percussion instruments. This is Mrs. Taylor’s final concert before her retirement at the end of this school year after teaching band at Meads Mill for 30 years! We encourage everyone to attend this special evening.
