Week of May 4

Congratulations to Symphonic Band 9/10 and Symphonic Band 11/12 on your Superior performances at MSBOA State Band Festival! You are STATE CHAMPIONS for earning 1st Division Ratings! Bravo!

TUXEDO RETURN is one day only on Monday, May 4. All non-Jazz students must return their Tuxedo Jacket and Pants this one day only within the return windows (details below in “This Week’s Schedule”). Jazz students who needed replacements throughout the year should return their uniform articles that no longer fit, and keep their current ones. May the 4th be with you to remember to bring these uniform articles to school on Monday!

The “All-American” Spring Band Concert is on Tuesday, May 19. The Band Awards Ceremony & Banquet is the following day on Wednesday, May 20.

Purchase concert tickets via Ludus. RSVP for the banquet by Monday, May 4 via the Google Form link on the event page below. Vote on Paper Plate Awards by Friday, May 15.

2026 Band Camp is Wednesday, August 12 – Thursday, August 27.

These dates are listed at the bottom of the current 2025-26 Band Packet along with the home & away football game schedule. More details about 2026 Band Camp and the rest of the band events in the 2026-27 School Year will be sent out within the next month or so.

This Week’s Schedule

SUNDAY, MAY 3: Drumline @ Lacrosse Victory Day Game

  • Drumline Performance @ Lacrosse Victory Day Game.
  • The Band Room will NOT be open for drum pickup prior to the game. All participating Drumline members were supposed to have taken their drums home after returning from State Band Festival on Friday.
  • Report to 8 Mile “Northville Sports Den” Stadium @ 10:40 AM in Drumline Hoodie. Perform @ 10:50 AM and throughout game @ 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM.
  • Pizza provided afterwards.

MONDAY, MAY 4: Tuxedo Return, Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal

  • TUXEDO RETURN @ 7:30 – 8:30 AM and 2:20 – 4:00 PM.
    • Return Tuxedos (jacket and pants only) during seminar or after-school during the specified return windows. Tuxedo Shirts and Bowties are student-owned; keep and reuse for the coming years. Non-Jazz Seniors are welcome to donate their Tuxedo Shirt and Bowtie back to the Band if they wish.
    • Jazz Ensemble members keep their Tuxedo for summer performances, but those who needed replacements throughout the year should return their Tuxedo articles that no longer fit. All others must return all articles of their Tuxedos on this day within the return windows, no exceptions.
    • If you are unable to bring your Tuxedo within the return windows, you are responsible for having a friend/parent bring it within the return windows.
    • You are responsible for paying to have your Tuxedo professionally dry cleaned if you miss the return windows.
    • Students will be assessed fees of $200 for Tuxedo Jacket and $90 for Tuxedo Pants if they are missing.
    • SENIORS: Any missing uniform pieces will result in your graduation cap/gown and diploma being held until you return the pieces or pay the necessary fees.

THURSDAY, MAY 7: Music Leadership Workshop (optional), Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal

  • Music Leadership Workshop in Orchestra/Ensemble Room 132 @ 6:00 – 7:00 AM with Dr. Ray-Hepp. These optional workshops held on Thursday mornings are open to all NHS music students.
  • Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal @ 2:30 – 3:30 PM.

FRIDAY, MAY 8: Percussion Ensemble Rehearsal, Drumline @ Moraine Fun Run, Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal

  • Percussion Ensemble Rehearsal @ 7:20 – 8:20 AM.
  • Drumline Moraine Fun Run Performance @ 9:30 – 10:30 AM.
    • Report to Band Room immediately after 1A Seminar to load drums into cars and carpool to Moraine.
    • Perform from 9:30 – 10:30 AM, which is the end of the K-2nd Grade Run and the beginning of 3rd-5th Grade Run.
    • Return to NHS immediately after the performances and report to your 3A/lunch as soon as possible.
  • Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal @ 2:30 – 3:30 PM.

  • Several NHS Music Boosters Board positions for the 2026-27 school year are open: President, Treasurer, Secretary, Website Designer, IT (to help with credit card payments for donations and raffle tickets), and Fundraising. Contact Mr. Kollipara if interested. Thank you to Carin Lawing and Lora Graentzdoerffer for continuing their positions!
  • Designate the Boosters to earn money when you shop at Kroger and Busch’s. These programs require an annual renewal.

Week of April 27

MSBOA STATE BAND FESTIVAL is THIS WEEK on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Belding High School.

Chaperone SignUp

STUDENTS: EMAIL MR. KOLLIPARA AND SEE HIM IN BAND SEMINAR ON TUESDAY OR THURSDAY IF YOU ARE MISSING ANY UNIFORM ITEMS.

Symphonic Band 9/10 reports to the Band Room at 8:00 AM in Summer Uniform, performs at Belding HS at 12:45 PM, and returns to NHS by 4:00 PM. There are 2 of 4 bus chaperone slots filled for SB 9/10, but 2 more would be best so we have 2 per bus.

Symphonic Band 11/12 reports to the Band Room at 10:00 AM in Tuxedo, performs at Belding HS at 3:10 PM, and returns to NHS by 6:30 PM. There are 3 of 4 bus chaperone slots filled for SB 11/12, but 1 more would be best so we have 2 per bus.

The 1B Jazz Ensemble class has several open chairs for the 2026-27 school year, with no audition.

Please contact your counselor to make a change to your schedule to join the class. The bulk of the band this year is made up of seniors who will be graduating on May 31. It is up to the underclass students to take advantage of this opportunity! The directors will provide a jazz instrument and help you learn it if you do not know how to play one already.

The “All-American” Spring Band Concert is on Tuesday, May 19. The Band Awards Ceremony & Banquet is the following day on Wednesday, May 20.

  • Location: Belding High School – 850 Hall St, Belding, MI 48809
  • Symphonic Band 9/10: Attend 1B class; Dismissed from 1B at 7:45 AM; Report to Band Room in Summer Uniform at 8:00 AM; Perform at 12:45 PM; Return to NHS by 4:00 PM.
  • Symphonic Band 11/12: Attend 1B and 2B classes; Dismissed from 2B at 9:45 AM; Report to Band Room in Tuxedo at 10:00 AM; Perform at 3:10 PM; Return to NHS by 6:30 PM.
  • From NHS, students are bussed to and from festival. Students must ride the bus to festival. Percussion and larger instruments are transported via trailer. The trailer will go with SB 9/10 and return with SB 11/12. SB 9/10 brings all percussion instruments that are also needed for SB 11/12. All other instruments are transported via bus. Students are responsible for ensuring that the instrument and equipment they specifically use are loaded and unloaded from the trailer and buses, and safely transported to and from festival. Students may return from festival with parents, but must notify Mr. Kollipara & Mr. Rumbell before leaving.
  • DRUMLINE: Take drums home after festival for the Lacrosse Victory Day performance on Sunday.

Week of March 23

Congratulations on exceptional performances at State Solo & Ensemble Festival! Our Band & Orchestra students earned a total of 32 First Division Ratings and 2 Second Division Ratings! BRAVO!!

MSBOA STATE JAZZ FESTIVAL is THIS WEEK on Tuesday, March 24 at Bloomfield Hills High School.

Jazz Ensemble performs at 3:30 PM. Performing members are excused from 3B/C-Lunch at 12:30 PM to report to the Band Room.

MSBOA STATE BAND FESTIVAL may be on April 23, 24, or 29 (during the school day) or April 30 – May 2.

Due to host site changes that are beyond our control (determined by schools that volunteer to host at their school, and MSBOA), the possible dates for our State Band Festival have changed since last announced. The directors will announce the date, time, and location as soon as it is released to them by MSBOA.

  • This is the final rehearsal before State Jazz Festival. All Jazz Ensemble members performing at festival must attend this rehearsal.

TUESDAY, MARCH 24: MSBOA STATE JAZZ FESTIVAL

  • MSBOA State Jazz Festival is Tuesday, March 24. Our Jazz Ensemble performs at 3:30 PM.
  • Attire: Tuxedo
  • Location: Bloomfield Hills HS – 4200 Andover Rd, Bloomfield Twp, MI 48302
  • Students Excused from 3B/C-Lunch to Report to Band Room: 12:30 PM

Students are responsible for ensuring that the instrument(s)/equipment they use are loaded/unloaded from the bus and safely transported to/from festival. Students may return from festival with parents, but must notify Mr. Kollipara & Mr. Rumbell before leaving. State Jazz Festival is a required and graded performance for Jazz Ensemble members.

Take everything home on Friday – the Band Room will not be open on Saturday, except for Percussion Ensemble. Arrive early and check-in at your assigned warm-up room at the State S&E site. You will receive guidance from volunteers.

  • MSBOA DISTRICT XII BAND FESTIVAL is Friday, March 6, 2026 at Ypsilanti Lincoln High School. This is a REQUIRED and GRADED performance for ALL band students.
    • Click here to volunteer as a bus chaperone.
    • Attire: Concert Uniform
    • Location: Ypsilanti Lincoln High School – 7425 Willis Rd, Ypsilanti, MI 48197
    • Details: From NHS, students are bussed to and from festival. Students must ride the bus to festival. Percussion and larger instruments are transported via trailer. The trailer will go with SB 9/10 and return with SB 11/12. SB 9/10 brings all percussion instruments that are also needed for SB 11/12. All other instruments are transported via bus. Students are responsible for ensuring that the instrument and equipment they specifically use are loaded and unloaded from the trailer and buses, and safely transported to and from festival. Students may return from festival with parents, but must notify Mr. Kollipara & Mr. Rumbell before leaving. District XII Band Festival is required and graded for all band students.
  • Symphonic Band 9/10:
    • Attire: Summer Uniform – band polo, black dress pants (no jeans or sweatpants), black belt, long crew-length black socks (no logos or designs), and marching shoes
    • Report to NHS Band Room: 2:30 PM
    • Perform at Ypsilanti Lincoln HS: 5:50 PM
    • Return to NHS: 8:00 PM (approximately)
  • Symphonic Band 11/12:
    • Attire: Tuxedo – tux shirt, bowtie, jacket, pants, long crew-length black socks (no logos or designs), and marching shoes
    • Report to NHS Band Room: 4:45 PM
    • Perform at Ypsilanti Lincoln HS: 7:45 PM
    • Return to NHS: 9:50 PM (approximately)

SATURDAY, MARCH 7: Pep Band Performance @ Girls’ Hockey Playoffs Finals

  • Pep Band will perform at the Girls’ Hockey Playoffs Finals Game on Saturday, March 7 since the team won their Wednesday, March 4 game.
  • The Saturday, March 7 game is 12:00 – 2:00 PM at Big Boy Arena (34400 Utica Rd, Fraser, MI 48026). It is approximately a 55-minute drive from NHS. Meet at NHS at 9:45 – 10:30 AM for rehearsal, then drive to the game. It is best to carpool due to the long drive. Food will be provided at the arena before the game.
  • ADDITIONAL UPCOMING EVENT: We have been requested to perform at the Amerman Open House on Tuesday, March 10. The open house is 5:30 – 6:30 PM. The Band Room will be open after school until 4:45 PM for instrument pickup. Report to Amerman at 5:00 PM and we will perform between 5:30 – 6:15 PM. The Band Room will NOT be open after the performance – Mr. Kollipara has another music commitment that he must go to directly after the Amerman performance.
  • Given this information, please complete the Pep Band Google Form to vote whether you can or cannot make these 2 new Pep Band events.

Week of February 23

DISTRICT BAND FESTIVAL is on Friday, March 6 at Ypsilanti Lincoln High School.

Symphonic Band 9/10 reports to the NHS Band Room at 2:30 PM in Band Polo, etc., performs at 5:50 PM, and is estimated to return to NHS by 8:00 PM. Symphonic Band 11/12 reports to the NHS Band Room at 4:45 PM in Tuxedo, performs at 7:45 PM, and is estimated to return to NHS by 9:50 PM. In preparation for District Band Festival, Symphonic Band 11/12 rehearses on Mondays at 3:30 – 4:30 PM and Symphonic Band 9/10 rehearses on Tuesdays at 3:30 – 4:30 PM.

STATE SOLO & ENSEMBLE is on Saturday, March 21 at Novi High School.

The schedule will be posted as soon as it is released by MSBOA.

STATE JAZZ FESTIVAL is on Tuesday, March 24 at Bloomfield Hills High School.

Jazz Ensemble performs at 3:30 PM. More details are forthcoming. In preparation for State Jazz Festival and other performances throughout the year, Jazz Ensemble rehearses on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 2:30 – 3:30 PM. See the Band Calendar for the full rehearsal schedule.

  • Drumline Sectional @ 4:30 – 5:30 PM.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24: Rehearsals

  • Symphonic Band 9/10 Festival Rehearsal @ 3:30 – 4:30 PM.
  • Drumline Sectional @ 4:30 – 5:30 PM.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26: Jazz Rehearsal & Drumline @ Talent Show

  • Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal @ 2:30 – 3:30 PM.
  • Drumline Talent Show Performance @ 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Report @ 6:00 PM for rehearsal. Drumline is the final act of the talent show.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27: Percussion Rehearsal

  • Percussion Ensemble Rehearsal @ 7:20 – 8:20 AM.

SUNDAY, MARCH 1: Drumline @ Northville FUMC

  • Drumline Performance at the First United Methodist Church of Northville to perform as the kickoff for Homeless Hospitality Week.
    • Attire: Drumline Hoodie
    • Location: First United Methodist Church of Northville – 777 Eight Mile Rd, Northville, MI 48167
    • Band Room Open: 6:15 – 6:45 PM
    • Report to Northville FUMC: 7:00 PM
    • Performance: 7:15 – 8:00 PM
